RE: Alex White tonight

Was quite torn before this game(Braves 4 life!), but Alex only lasted 4: walking 4 and giving up the only run so far even though it was on a throwing error.

The Rockies starters are limited to 75 pitches (the relievers max 50).

Alex hit a HR the other night, I think in a pinch-hitting role.

If Alex hit a homerun in a major league game, then why in the heck was his bat never used in college. He came to college as a good hitter, but never utilized. He had the potential to hit in college much better then some of his teammates which were postion players.

RE: Alex White tonight

He came to college as a good pitcher and left as a dominant first rounder. I don't think that kind of development is possible when trying to focus on both facets of the game at the same time.

61, are you really questioning the usage or development of Alex White?

I think it worked out ok for White and UNC.

RE: Alex White tonight

Agree, it did turn out well for both Alex and UNC.

I will say in my opinion, I do feel that our lineup toward the end of Alex's college career at times struggled to score runs even with Ackley and Seagler in the lineup. Maybe a key hit here or there would have helped. Not saying we would had won the World Series, but like the quote from Waterboy "Can't hold anything back"

Dude, didn't we come an inning away from doing just that?

RE: Alex White tonight

I maybe wrong, but not during Alex's time on team. If we are talking about the first series with OSU then Alex was not on team. I do not recall any of the other series coming down to one inning.

You guys are right. It was right to protect his arm. Forgive me, I am a bit old school where pitchers actually come to the plate and hit, pitchers pitch complete games, etc. Miss those days in seeing managers actually having to make those kind of decisions in games. Another topic though..

One swing of the bat and a HR results and now we question why he was not bombing away at UNC.........we fans are like that.

I would trust tarheel61 when it comes to Alex. He watched him play from little league through High School. I can also say with absolute certainty that Alex and his family wanted him to have an opportunity at the plate now and then. That said, it's hard to argue about how Fox handled Alex on the mound.

Re: Alex White tonight

Alex was given the gift to play baseball...not just pitch, but he could play any position on the field and do it well. He obviously had a fine career as a pitcher at UNC. He was the rare player who had the skills to play whatever position he chose at a high level. Had he focused on playing position, I am confident he could have been a 1st round pick. He was that talented.
