RE: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
I have been lucky to get to know Brock Deatherage while working with Western Alamance's football team. He is an outstanding young man of high character. He is also a very gifted athlete who has power and quickness.

Good get for Holbrook. I'm still holding out that he'll take a job somewhere like Sand Diego State or Arizona. He's a great recruiter (Sorry, WM. I couldn't resist).

Gahagan invited to Under Armour Team One Futures East Showcase Sept. 22 in Jupiter, Florida, He has also thrown for almost 1000 yards as North Hendersonville, NC QB.

I coach against Hunter Williams and the kid is a player. Can do it pretty well on the bump also. Definitely look forward to seeing him in Carolina blue.

Anywhere I can see a list of 2014 offers? Would like to see some kids we are showing interest in whether or not they are committing...

RE: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
A report on the football board says that Deatherage attended a football combine this weekend. He checked in at 5'11" and 167 lbs.. He also ran a super fast 4.35 forty yard dash. If he shows up for baseball, he'll probably be the fastest player we've had since Tyrell Godwin.

Anybody know what's going with the kid from Northwest Guilford. I don't think he has pitched a game all year.

Re: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
Not sure of the diagnosis but they let his arm rest this spring. I hope to see him pitch this summer. The Hansen kid looked very good last night and Adam Swim ('13 Northwest, going to UNCG, brother at Elon) is an excellent pitcher that the ACC schools missed. I will be surprised if Swim is not in UNC-G's weekend rotation next year.

Thats what I've been saying for a while now Brad. Not getting any traction here for some reason. I think its the timing.
Kid is a beast though. Could use some more maturity/composure but has great speed and bat.

He better get that maturity/composure soon if he plans to play for Coach Fox.

RE: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
Agreed but let me clarify. When Brooks first transferred to South Meck he was young and immature. His whole position was that he was leaving his then high school (IIRC in Gastonia) because his coach didn't want to listen to his POV. That may have been a justification rather than a true stance. Even still he is a bit emotional when things don't go his way and I'm not a huge fan of his attitude when he misses at the plate. The whole reason Logan Koch is not a Tar Heel and is a Gamecock is this very attitude but I suspect Brooks is deemed more coachable. Koch deep down wanted to be a Heel despite his SC "ties". Brooks is a fringe Fox guy in the end and South Meck is somewhat "loose" with their players. They have an excellent staff for development though and I expect Brooks to get better - although I'm skeptical of his defensive position as he is at SS and its just not very natural for him. I'd guess if he increases his speed a bit he will end up in the deep fields.

Thanks for the clarification. I hope it works out as he sounds like a terrific prospect. Please keep us posted of his summer progress. I enjoy hearing updates. i live in Greensboro but did not know the NW Guilford pitcher was injured.

I do not follow baseball much with recruiting or many games but I am surprised that NC has a lot of talent in baseball.

Re: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
Brett Daniels from Fuquay-Varina is 6-0, 170lbs and a 3b/RHP. According to Maxpreps he hit .468 with an OBP of .554 and FVHS just finished as the runners-up in the 4A championship. As a pitcher he had a 1.21 ERA. Again, this is according to Maxpreps.

RE: Recruiting Board: Class of 2014
according to WRAL, "he hit .432, 43 hits, 23 runs and 4 home runs. He also had 47 RBIs, breaking Fuquay-Varina's single-season RBI record." Also according to WRAL, he was 12-1 as a starting pitcher. His only loss as a starter came in game 3 of the 4-A championship against South Meck.
