Your guide to Murfreesboro Restaurants

Hopefully you will all find this useful.

An important thing to keep in mind about Murfreesboro is many roads have multiple names. Just to run off a few of the big ones. Old Fort Parkway and Memorial Boulevard are the same road. Also Northfield and Rutherford are the same road, which can cause confusion for visitors.

This thread will focus exclusively on dining. There will be subsequent responses (posted by myself or others) that focus on hotels, things to do, places to see, tailgating, and anything else we feel may be beneficial to you as a visiting fan.

As of October 1st, 2007 all Murfreesboro restaurants are non-smoking, unless they are 21 and up at all times. As far as the restaurants go, I'll give a brief description of the restaurants that aren't major national chains, and provide a price range for restaurants that I feel need to have one.

Around campus

La Siesta- One of the closest restaurants to both the Murphy Center (basketball) and Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium (football). Pretty standard Mexican restaurant. Located just off the corner of Greenland Drive and Middle Tennessee Blvd. (615) 890-0773

The Boro- 21 and up  bar and restaurant located just across Greenland Drive from the stadium. Pretty decent beer selection, pretty standard bar food, live music every night. Cash only and no tabs. (615) 895-4800

Gentleman Jim's- Typical student "dive" bar. Two locations, one on Greenland and one on Main Street. Cheap drinks and lots of students. Both have patios, which is the preferred place to sit, weather permitting. Main Street. (615) 896-9716  Greenland (615) 893-9933

Slick Pig BBQ- Located on Main St. just across from campus. A long-time supporter of MTSU. All BBQ is smoked, the pork sandwiches are good, but the wings are great. (615) 890-3583

Mellow Mushroom- Located on Rutherford Blvd. Mellow Mushroom is a fantastic Pizza Chain that if you are unfamiliar with, you need to check out. Great Pizza and sandwiches and 30 beers on tap. A little pricey for pizza, but definitely worth it. (615) 890-8898

On and around the square

The square is located approximately 1 mile from campus down East Main Street. Also connects to Broad via West Main Street.

Blue Rooster- Brand new bar, details to come.

Liquid Smoke- A cigar bar. Great selection of beer and cigars. Inside you'll find the bar and several couches as well as a dartboard. (615) 217-7822

Wall Street- Just a typical bar, live music on occasion. (615) 867-9090

Marina's On the Square- Local hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. Really good Italian food, fantastic lunch specials. Closed Sunday and Monday. Price range: Dinner entrees: $7-$15; lunch entrees: $6-$8. (615) 849-8881

Maple Street Grill- Fairly new restaurant. Sandwiches, soups, salads, pasta, chicken steaks and seafood. Price range entrees: $12-$22. (615) 890-0122

City Cafe- Fantastic down home country cookin'. There are two major meat & three places in town, and this is one of them. If you'd like to meet life-long Murfreesboro residents, this is the place to go. (615) 893-1303

Kleer Vu Lunchroom- This would be the other Murfreesboro meat & three. Not exactly on the square, but is less than a mile from the square on South Highland. (615) 896-0520

On Broad

Demos'- A long time Murfreesboro favorite. Steak and spaghetti house.  Entrees: $12-$25. (615) 895-3701 -author's note, this is not a great place, was voted most popular for like a decade, before there were many choices. It's okay, but much better out there.

Toot's- In my opinion, if you came to Murfreesboro and could only eat at one restaurant, it should be Toot's. Think of a local Hooter's, with a little bit more of a family atmosphere. Good drink specials, famous for their wings and fried pickles. Make sure you tell your server that it is your first visit and you will receive complimentary fried pickles. My favorites are the ribs and the fried catfish. (615) 898-1301

Chef Wang's- Large Chinese Buffet. Great lunch, a little pricey for dinner. (615) 217-6899

Five Senses- Located just off Broad in Georgetown Park behind the Kroger's on the corner of Broad and Northfield. This is an excellent local restaurant, some of the best dining and wine you'll find in Murfreesboro. Cozy intimate atmosphere, open kitchen and fantastic food. The menus and wine list are completely changed 4 times a year. Often highlighted by items like Pheasant and Wild Boar along with classics like Filet Mignon, Pork Tenderloin and Mahi Mahi. Entrees $14-$26 Closed on Mondays. Opens for dinner at 5:30pm Tuesday through Saturday. (615) 867-4155

Bunganut Pig- Also located in Georgetown Park just off Broad. Probably the best bar in Murfreesboro for those looking to avoid the student crowd. (615) 893-7860

Chili's- (615) 867-2855

Logan's Roadhouse- (615) 895-4419

Hooter's- (615) 898-0921

Avenue Murfreesboro/Medical Center/Thompson Lane

Longhorn Steakhouse- Located in "The Avenue" (615) 890-4187

Macaroni Grill-
Located in "The Avenue" (615) 893-6670

Carraba's Italian Grill- Located at the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane. Dinner only Monday through Saturday. Lunch and dinner on Sunday. (615) 890-6693

The Chop House- Located at the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane Tennessee Steak house chain. Offers choice and prime steaks. Nice atmosphere. Possibly the best Caesar salad I've ever eaten. Open lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Entrees: $12-$35. (615) 849-9339

Bonefish Grill-
Located at the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane Fantastic up and coming chain. Casual plus atmosphere. Fresh seafood flown in daily, but also features great steak, chicken and seafood dishes. Best wine list in Murfreesboro. Best Crab Cakes outside of Maryland. Dinner only 7 days a week Entrees $13-$24. (615) 217-1883

Red Robin- Located at the Corner of Medical Center Boulevard and Thompson Lane Family casual restaurant, focused primarily on burgers. (615) 867-1120

Golden Eagle Mongolian Stir Fry- Located at the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane. Great for lunch. You build your own stir-fry creation and watch it cooked in front of you. (615) 896-3336

Jim N' Nicks- Located just off the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane. Excellent full service BBQ restaurant, a little pricey but worth the money in my opinion. The cheese biscuits are awesome. (615) 893-1001

Jason's Deli- Just off the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane Great soup and sandwich place. (615) 217-3617

Moe's Southwest Grill- Just off the corner of Medical Center and Thompson Lane Counter service burrito place. (615) 904-6637

Marble Slab Creamery- Great ice cream.(615) 217-2443

Stones River Mall/Old Fort Pkwy

Old Chicago- Located in front of Target on Old Fort. Pizza/Italian with a very large beer menu. Different beer specials every night and open till 2am. 615-225-3200

Bar B Cutie- Located just off the intersection of Old Fort and Broad. Tennessee BBQ chain. Counter service, great BBQ, awesome green beans and macaroni & cheese. (615) 217-8883

Other Miscellaneous Restaurants Around Town

Kirkenburts Smokehouse Grill- Located on Cason Lane. BBQ and wings, very local and huge university supporter. Awesome wings. (615) 893-3663

Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi- Located on Northfield just off the intersection of Northfield and Memorial. Awesome sushi and hibachi grill. (615) 907-1868

Beer Depot- Located on Main St. just across from campus. This is not a restaurant. The Beer Depot is the best beer store in Murfreesboro as far as quality goes. You will find more imports and microbreweries at Beer Depot anywhere in Murfreesboro. It's a little more expensive than buying your beer at the grocery store, but if you are a discerning beer drinker, this is where you want to go. (615) 890-2337
