What grade was Ahtyba Rubin given when he was drafted in 2008?

What grade was Ahtyba Rubin given when he was drafted in 2008?

Ahtyba Rubin was an incredible find in the 6th round of the 2008 draft. Does anyone remember the nfl.com grade he was given when he was drafted?

Thanks.

I don't remember the grade but I remember there being late one talk to late rounds.

I myself cracked on him because he look like poo in the Shrine Game that year.

But soon as I watched him more closely as a rookie, I could tell there was something there.

And he also graded the highest on Kirwan's explosion chart in that draft class (which I always forget)

Can't stop talking football: Browns, NFL, college, even some high school @brentsobleski

Here is his NFL prospect profile, but there is no grade there. However, you can at least see what they had to say about him.

I remember the board being pretty receptive to the pick.

I think Rubin was the only keeper from the 2008 draft class so I'm glad we had 1 good find.  I don't remember what his pre-draft grade was.

Think back to the 2008 draft with no day 1 while we were only scheduled for 4 draft picks in 2009 without an experienced GM in the house.  Going from that to Heckert changed my confidence in this franchise quite a bit.

I know people will be discouraged about the WR needs.  However this draft was like going to an all you can eat buffet hungry.  Everything looks delicious and you consume a ton of food.  When you're all done, you're full. But you wished you didn't load up on too many things at the expense of trying a couple other things you wanted.

We just had too many needs where priority meant we had to add DTs to address the 30th ranked rush defense.  Perhaps even more so, we added a RB & RT that can move the chains and flip that time of possession in our favor.  Since that RB can score TDs, the prognosis looks good.

Welcome to Cleveland - for a couple minutes...

SI gave him a 3.76, which is 'solid prospect'. At the time he was 'climbing up the boards'. Not sure how this is, since we nabbed him in the 6th.

This must have been before the Shrine Game, where Sobo has him 'playing like poo'. He was a Mid-3rd Rounder here. With Billy Winn being Projected as a 1st Rounder earlier before taking a dive (I know that looks worse, but a similar sort of tail spin) maybe we can 'fix' Winn as well? Sure, Rubin was a Savage deal, but we have struck gold with a falling DL before.

I could find absolutely no Draft info on Rubin. Anyone got a better search engine than Google? Hold up, some ones at my doo

Rubes was at CBS for the draft. He did a nice little meet and greet with some fans. Seems like a really good guy. It surprised me how much muscle mass the guy has. He actually looked kind of trim too.

It appears that 31 teams missed on him. According to the OBR board logic, they should fire all of their GMs.

Sorry, just blown away by some of the stupidity and negativity on OBR.

I never bothered with a tag line or signature, maybe that should be it?

We had him pegged as a first round value, but we knew the other teams under-valued him so we let him dropped as low as we good to get max value.  The only good pick we made since the return, but it was pure genius.

Walterfootball rated him very highly 2nd-3rd range.

Matt McGuire was doing a lot of there ranking back then.  I don't think he works for them anymore.

If you don't consider it, I'll take it.

Finally the team has turned a corner for the better. The corner may not be a large one but it is significant to the success of the team. The addition of more talent, strength and quickness will only make the team more competitive and hopefully appreciated by those who bash the team on a daily basis.

Rubin was a great find. I hope we have a few more of these in the coming years.

In that link I looked at the RB's in that draft class and OMG what a year that was. Just a crazy amount of talent that year.

I did the same, you're right, it was stacked.

Hey Tank, it's yours, I went a different direction. Trying to keep it positive.

Re: What grade was Ahtyba Rubin given when he was drafted in

PFW's 2008 Guide had Rubin ranked as the 11th best dt and projected for rounds 3-4.

In front of him...

Glenn Dorsey
Sedrick Ellis
Kentwan Ballmer
Marcus Harrison
Trevor Laws
Pat Sims
DeMario Pressley
Dre Moore
Frank Okam
Red Bryant

PFW gave the DT crop a C- that year.

Re: What grade was Ahtyba Rubin given when he was drafted in

See, what do Draft Guides know! LOL!  When your DL Crop has  Rubin as the 13th best DL and you only grade at C-, that's crazy.  But then when half the guys that are meant to be better than you end up being non-descript, I guess they hit the Grade right after all.

Just saying, IF I said "Twelve DT's in this Draft will be better than Rubin.  This DL Class will be a C-."  Then I showed you what Rubin turns out to be, you'd think I'm crazy.  Not that he's a HOF, but he's very solid, still young, and getting better.

BRX:

See, what do Draft Guides know! LOL!

AA:

See their rank versus the actual order.  I'd give PFW props on this one.

PFW RANK.....................DRAFT ORDER
Glenn Dorsey..................Glenn Dorsey (5)
Sedrick Ellis.....................Sedrick Ellis  (7)
Kentwan Ballmer............Kentwan Ballmer (29)
Marcus Harrison............Trevor Laws  (47)
Trevor Laws.....................Pat Sims (77)
Pat Sims..........................Andre Fluellen (87)
DeMario Pressley...........Marcus Harrison (90)
Dre Moore........................Dre Moore (115)
Frank Okam.....................Red Bryant (121)
Red Bryant.......................DeMario Pressley (144)
Ahtyba Rubin...................Jason Shirley  (145)
............................................Carlto n Powell (148)
............................................Frank Okam  (151)
............................................Letroy Guion  (152)
............................................Nick Hayden  (181)
............................................Ahtyba Rubin (190)

Obviously Rubin was a tremendous value pick.  But what a lot of the other guys have done, I don't know.
Unless we heard of them as Pro Bowlers, we assume nothing.

I do remember Red Bryant as one man wrecking crew against the Browns line at CBS.
