Who was the little sh*t in Franklin's presser on Monday?

I just watched the Franklin press conference from Monday. I was taken back by the guy that was trying to bait Franklin about Chris Boyd. Did anyone hear it? Better yet, does anyone know who that little sh*t was?

Interesting that is was Uut week.

If it's the one where Franklin replied to him about the shoes to Tanzania video both times I think that was a local fox17 reporter.

Does he come and do that every week? I don't think I've heard him before.

How lame do you have to be to do that? He obviously didn't learn from channel 2's mistake. He was on twitter talking ish afterwards about VU fans with one of his buddies. VU just needs to keep beating teams and all these haters look like fools, which they most definitely are.

The tennessean had an article back in September he could have looked up stating Boyd would remain in school. I guess he was looking for his 15 minutes. Screw him. He needs the 5 of clubs and ace of spades on him! Whooooooooo!

Anchor Down!!!!

No, he was sent there to specifically ask that question as part of a story that they had going on. Franklin has caught flak by answering it the way he did, but I don't know how many times he can say "no comment" or "we are not and can't talk about that". Nothing like ambush "journalism" during ratings period. I added Fox17 to my shat list that includes Tennessean, Scene, espn, Bob Costas, Chaz Withrow, Plaz, Kuharsky, dbag Pogue......and a few more.

It's simple.  Ban any reporter and their media outlet for 30 days that asks questions that are off limits.  Problem solved.  No press passes no access to the media room etc.

Re: Who was the little sh*t in Franklin's presser on Monday?

The reporter was there to try to create a follow-up for a manufactured story.

Channel 17 ran a "hidden-camera exclusive" claiming that they had "discovered" that Chris Boyd was still on scholarship and attending classes.

The obvious point to reinforce with their jackleg of a news director is that there was nothing to "discover." Vanderbilt had made no secret three months ago that Boyd would be allowed to remain in school. IT WAS IN THE NEWS, FOR CHRISSAKE.

If they want to question the decision to let Boyd stay in school, fine (even though that's not news reporting). But don't mislead the public by pretending that your hidden cameras "discovered" something that Vanderbilt was trying to keep a secret. And don't use it, especially, as a way to cover your own ignorance or laziness in failing to address the story when it was a story.

Their story also included the false claim that Fox-17 had triggered a debate across the Midstate with their hidden-camera story. The only "debate" they presented involved references to talk radio (104.5) and a couple of ignorant-*** soundbites from the ignorant-*** Chad Withrow.

Then, at the presser, they doubled down on this utterly manufactured story by trying to get Franklin to talk about it. They did it so they could keep their manufactured story alive with something fresh -- Franklin's reaction.

I wish Franklin had responded to this human nub with something like: "Clearly, you seem to be unaware that, at Vanderbilt, the football coach doesn't make the determination of who stays in school. The football coach only gets to say who's on the football team. It's also possible that you are brand-new to this market and didn't know that there has been no secret for the past three months that Chris Boyd has been in school and attending classes. After we finish here, I'll be glad to have one of our media relations people give you the relevant contact information so you can talk to the people at Kirkland Hall about Chris Boyd's status as a student. That is a university matter, and I'm here only to talk about football. Next question."

I hope Vandymaniacs will call Channel 17 and wear them out. Here's their main number:

615-259-5617

Call and ask for their news director.

I'll see if I can find a direct line for him.

Attempting to make news - not report it

What a pitiful excuse for a news operation. Changing the story on the website to make Franklin's answer the story is even worse.

I will be calling the station.

Update:

The news director's name is Brian McGruder. Apparently it's best just to call the main number and ask for him.

Please, everyone, take 5 minutes today and light 'em up.

They are a wannabe news station. They are grasping for straws. Their weatherman's first name is Barack, for whatever that is worth.

"You might be surprised at his response to questions by Reporter Roger Susanin. FOX17 is following this story very closely."  Too funny.  I hope they are following it closely.

Local news is completely irrelevant.  These people are "personalities" in their own minds.  They like going to the grocery store and having some 80 year old lady recognize them like they are famous.  At the end of the day, they read words off of a screen.  I wish we would stop giving them any credit by posting about what they say or do.

BHoyal, I hope I didn't step on toes. You don't know him, do you? Oh well, my list is long and lengthy, mostly filled with the color orange and anything that goes with that or supports that being first and foremost.

Really, why does our common love for the 'Dores have to de-evolve into political stabs?
Let's act like adults, please.

If they were on campus following him around without permission they they  were:
Trespassing on private property ( no one films on VU campus without permisson of Press office) and by following CHris around that could reviews as stalking and also stromping on his civil liberties. The University Press Office needs to address this issue.ohlord

THAT APPEARS TO BE JUST WHAT THEY WERE DOING. IN THEIR STORY, YOU SEE ONE BRIEF CLIP OF BOYD WALKING ON THE CAMPUS (footage, of course, that doesn't exactly confirm their claim that he's attending classes). I CAN ONLY PRESUME THAT, WHEN THEY SAID THEIR STORY RELIED ON A HIDDEN CAMERA, THIS IS WHAT THEY USED THE HIDDEN CAMERA TO FILM.

THE DEEPEST DIGGING THEY DID FOR THE STORY APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN FINDING OUT WHEN BOYD WOULD BE WALKING TO OR FROM ONE OF HIS CLASSES.

Please call the news director and voice your displeasure

No need to be overly nasty or obscene.

Just call out the cowardly and sensationalized way they attempted to manufacture news vs. reporting it.
